Dangling ID tags do their job, but they also jingle, snag, and eventually go missing off the ring. The Heritage Nameplate Leather Collar solves that by building the ID directly into the collar — a laser-engraved plate, permanently attached, instead of one more thing that can fall off mid-walk.
How personalization works
This collar is one of our print-on-demand pieces, which means nothing gets engraved until you order it. On the product page, you'll fill in what you want on the plate — typically your dog's name and a phone number — before adding it to your cart. That information travels with your order as a personalization note, so our team engraves exactly what you typed, not a generic placeholder.
What to put on the plate
Keep it simple: your dog's name on one line, a reachable phone number on the second. Skip the address — if the collar is ever how a stranger reaches you, a phone number gets your dog home faster than a mailing address does, without listing where you live for anyone who finds it. Double-check the number before you submit; because these are made to order, personalized plates aren't returnable once engraved.
Sizing it correctly
The nameplate collar runs XS through L. Measure your dog's current collar (or their neck, snug but not tight, plus a couple of fingers' width) rather than guessing from breed or weight — neck size varies a lot within the same breed. If your dog is between sizes or still growing, size up; a nameplate collar is meant to stay on for years, not get replaced every few months.
Why leather for this one
An engraved plate only stays legible if the collar underneath doesn't fall apart around it, which is why this one is genuine leather rather than nylon or biothane. It softens with wear the way our other leather pieces do — see our leather care guide if you want it looking sharp for the long haul.
If something needs to change after ordering
Because the plate is engraved specifically for your order, changes are much easier to make before production starts than after. If you notice a typo in your personalization details right after checkout, reach out to us as soon as possible — the sooner we catch it, the better the odds we can fix it before the collar goes into production.
A gift that doesn't need sizing guesswork solved twice
Personalized gifts are usually a gamble — you either guess the size or ruin the surprise by asking. A nameplate collar splits the difference: ask for the dog's current collar size (easy, doesn't give anything away), and let the name and number be the surprise part.
